As part of a fast growing organization, MURAL's Data Engineering is looking to hire an expert Engineer for a Principal engineer (Solutions Architect) role in our organization. You will envision, conceptualize, design, build and integrate scalable, distributed systems, platforms and tools that power the Data Warehouse. These systems help our partners implement, deploy and analyze data assets with a high level of autonomy and limited friction. You will play a meaningful role in scaling our data warehouse as well as making our user experience interacting with data more efficient, cheerful and productive.

Data Engineering is a tightly integrated team of core technical functions that support Data Practitioners spanning across Engineering, Analytics, Data Science and Machine learning teams at MURAL. We perform functions and provide support and services ranging from Ingesting data into the Data Warehouse and Data lake to making this data and insights on it available so these data practitioners can make better data driven decisions.

Our work is vital to the entire MURAL community so we can make a more creative, engaging, and fun way of working together. We help product analysts to understand users' experiences, Financial analysts to gain insights on MURALs business and Customer Success, Sales and Marketing Analysts to build and act on the customers journey. We endeavor to build engaging product experiences powered by the Data Warehouse that covers but is not limited to make our search, recommendations and insights experience faster and better.


As an engineer in Data Engineering you will actively contribute to the mission - To build a data warehouse that provides data that is reliable, insightful and easily accessible to everyone at MURAL to help them make data driven decisions.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Devise architectural solutions to drive insight into the state of the data warehouse at MURAL with a comprehensive view of data flow, lineage, resource usage, etc.
  • Envisions, Conceptualizes, Designs and Guides the next generation of Data warehouse.
  • Being a part of the larger architecture community at MURAL, influences the Product as well as Analytics architecture with a data first approach.
  • Drive the technology assessment, and recommendations on build vs buy backed by proven benchmarking and proof of concepts.
  • Drives towards technical decisions on architecture.
  • Participate in day to day team level engagement guiding teams across Data Engineering on data warehouse architecture.
  • Engage in quarterly and annual planning processes and contribute towards building the Data Engineering roadmap.
  • Collaborates with peers in engineering to tackle complex data and architecture problems.
  • Define and articulate guiding principles for critical initiatives on architecture, development methodologies, best practices, evaluation of technology, etc.
  • Write, Review and Provide feedback on design and architecture proposals from others.
  • Be a Multiplier leading by example rallying engineers to build best in class data warehousing solutions
  • Mentoring engineers to build a strong next rung of technical leadership.


  • 12+ years of relevant technical experience, including significant experience with Data Warehouse technologies building pipelines, working with ingestion frameworks, designing and implementing real-time analytics architectures and building & maintaining large scale data warehouse systems.
  • You have operated large distributed systems at low cost while at the same time worked on solving Scalability, Performance, Reliability challenges.
  • You have a strong dedication to code quality, automation and operational excellence.
  • You are a strong communicator. Explaining sophisticated technical concepts to designers, support, and other engineers is no problem for you.
  • In-depth knowledge of not only the engineering functions but in general data technologies that power analytics but also the business strategies and company goals.
  • Good knowledge of the production technologies we use including AWS or Azure (CloudFormation, EC2), Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, Chef. 
  • Expertise in Airflow or other orchestrators, EMR/ Databricks, Presto/ Trino or equivalent, Pinot/ Druid or equivalent. 
  • Experience working with GoLang, Py, Scala, Java or similar technologies. 
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
