The Engineering organization is looking for Data Analysts to join the Data group and closely partner with our Product organization on building data products and tools to support our broader company strategy and individual product area needs.

Data Analysts partner with Data Scientists, Engineers and Product Managers in the following areas:

  • Developer Cloud. The Developer Cloud data team partners with GitHub product (e.g. Actions, Codespaces), revenue, sales and billing teams to understand their customers and business and increase product adoption.
  • Trust by Design. The Trust By Design data team partners with Github Security to ensure safety/security of sensitive customer information and protect our customers from externally reported security vulnerabilities.
  • Communities. The Communities data team is responsible for building effective data products that support GitHub’s vision of creating feedback loops across creation, consumption, communities, and commerce.
  • Growth and Core Metrics. The Growth and Core Metrics data team builds data products to support decision makers in different business functions to create long-term value for GitHub.

You will leverage GitHub’s large, complex data sets to build models and processes that solve difficult, non-routine problems both for our users, and within GitHub. 

This is an individual contributor position with significant growth potential.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform quantitative analyses of varying depth to support strategic initiatives and answer questions arising in the day to day business
  • Summarize data-driven recommendations into effective presentations for stakeholders in different areas of GitHub
  • Dig into large data sets across the customer life cycle to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities to grow the business
  • Identify growth opportunities and propose new experiments. We believe great ideas come from everywhere in the team!

 

Qualifications for all candidates

  • Experience leveraging data query languages (SQL) and scripting languages (Python, R or equivalent) for data analysis
  • Ability to implement analytics & data visualizations via Power BI, Looker, or equivalent software
  • Experience using data to guide and influence decisions
  • Experience researching, defining and measuring metrics based on quantitative and qualitative requirements
  • Experience being an effective contributor in cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and self-direction
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications for Senior-level candidates

  • Ability to synthesize and communicate complex findings to a diverse audience
  • Experience evangelizing data products or services to stakeholders in support of data-driven decision making
  • Demonstrated ability to make and implement feedback for improvements to datasets, reports, and/or documentation
  • Experience being an effective technical leader in cross-functional teams
  • Experience mentoring team members
